ALASKA MCLE REQUIREMENTS
Every active member of the State Bar must complete a minimum of three hours of accredited continuing legal education (CLE) during each MCLE compliance year in ethics. In addition to the three hours of ethics, you are encouraged, but not required, to complete 9 hours of approved voluntary general CLE.
- CLE Club courses can be used to satisfy the mandatory 3 hours of ethics and 9 hours of voluntary general CLE.
MCLE Compliance Year
The first reporting period runs from January 1 to December 31 – with the first reporting deadline of February 1, of the following year.
- Newly admitted lawyers report for the year immediately following the year of admission.
- The reporting period is a calendar year.
MCLE Credit
The Alaska bar approves activities that include:
- Studying audio or video tapes or other technology-delivered approved MCLE and VCLE courses.
- Qualifying ethics educational topics include: professional responsibility, workplace ethics, law office management, attention to cases and clients, time management, malpractice prevention, collegiality, general attorney wellness and professionalism.
MCLE Credit Calculation
The Attorney Circles website reflects the number of credits granted for the course per the State Bar of Alaska CLE credit hours. Credits are computed as 60 minutes of instruction = one hour of CLE credit. In the case of partial hours completed, the CLE credits will be rounded to the nearest quarter hour, e.g. an 80 minute program = 1.50 CLE credits.
