ARIZONA MCLE REQUIREMENTS
Lawyers in Arizona have annual CLE reporting requirements. During that time each member must acquire a total of 15 hours of CLE.
- A minimum of three hours of continuing legal education activity each educational year shall be in the area of ethics/professional responsibility. Professional responsibility includes instruction in legal and judicial ethics, professionalism, and malpractice prevention, and may include such topics as substance abuse, including causes, prevention, detection and treatment alternatives, attorneys' fees, client development, law office economics and practice, alternatives to litigation for managing conflict and resolving disputes, stress management, and the particular responsibilities of public lawyers, judges, and in-house counsel, to the extent that professional responsibility is directly addressed in connection with these topics.
- Active members must submit proof of meeting their MCLE requirements annually on the form prescribed by the State Bar. The preferred method of filing your affidavit is online. In addition, blank affidavits are posted on the Arizona Bar website in .pdf format. Affidavit forms are mailed to a member’s address of record in late August if the member has not yet filed. Affidavits must be filed by September 15 of each year.
Arizona attorneys can use CLE Club courses to satisfy your 15 hours of CLE, including 3 hours of ethics. CLE Club provides Interactive Online MCLE courses. Our courses qualify as Interactive because our course content provides opportunities for students to respond to prompts in the course material initiated by the faculty. This meets the Arizona Bar rule stating:
- "For online programs, how do I know if it qualifies for interactive or self-study? - Where the order of presentation or the content of the course material is dependent on the member’s response and the member has an opportunity to respond to prompts initiated by the faculty or placed within the course material, it is considered to be interactive."
MCLE Compliance Year
The educational cycle begins July 1 and ends on June 30 of each year.
Interactive MCLE Credit
Per the Arizona Bar’s standards a CLE course must meet the following criteria to qualify towards MCLE requirements:
- The program must have attorneys as primary audience and the seminar must target attorneys.
- Main goal to increase the member’s competence as a lawyer.
- It must deal with matters directly related to the practice of law, professional responsibility, or ethical obligations of member.
- Must have an agenda, written materials, and a certificate of completion or attendance.
