MISSOURI MCLE REQUIREMENTS
Every active member of the State Bar must complete a minimum of 15 hours of accredited continuing legal education (CLE) during each MCLE compliance year.
- Six hours of the 15-hour requirement may be satisfied by self-study. Self-study credit may not be used to satisfy the ethics education requirement.
- At least three of these hours must be in legal ethics and obtained every three years.
- The current three year ethics compliance period if July 1, 2008-June 30, 2011.
- All new lawyers admitted to The Missouri Bar after June 30, 1990 are required to obtain three hours of ethics credit within 12 months of admission.
Missouri attorneys can use CLE Club to obtain 6 of the required 15 CLE credits per year. CLE Club course are considered self study courses by the Missouri State Bar. Missour attorneys cannot take self study legal ethics courses to meet the three hour yearly requirement. The Missouri Bar requires that all attorneys take a live ethics course to meet the 3 hour legal ethics requirement.
MCLE Compliance Year
You must earn 15 general credits during each July 1 – June 30 reporting period and by July 31 make an annual report. Newly admitted attorneys are exempt from the 15 hour requirement for the July 1 – June 30 reporting year which they are admitted.
Self Study Credit
Study of online on-demand legal materials may be reported for self-study credit, subject to a 6-hour limit.
- Missouri attorneys can use CLE Club courses to earn 6 or the required 15 CLE credit per year.
- Missouri attorneys cannot use CLE Club ethics courses to meet the 3 hour ethics yearly requirement
Self Study Credit Calculation
Credit for formal course work shall be awarded on the basis of Missouri’s 50-minute credit hour.
